The City of Bonita Springs is currently looking for a Maintenance Specialist. DEPARTMENT: Parks and Recreation REPORTS TO: Maintenance Supervisor FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt WORK OBJECTIVE: Maintains and repairs all City parks, property, and structures to include: mowing, irrigation, fertilizing, spraying herbicides, trash removal. EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. It is not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such functions are a logical assignment to the position. --- Maintains citywide landscaping --- Cleans parks to include trash clean up and graffiti and drainage debris removal --- Maintains sports fields to include grooming clay, mowing, and painting lines --- Assists with special events by setting up equipment --- Assists in loading and unloading materials and equipment --- Repairs fences --- Operates power equipment such as concrete and chain saws, weed eaters, edger's and related equipment and machinery necessary to perform tasks at the highest skill level --- Oversees cleaning of the job site and inspects equipment used to ensure it is properly adjusted and in good working order MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma/GED preferred; supplemented by three or more years' experience in lawn and landscape maintenance and operation of landscape equipment; training in fertilization, irrigation, spray chemicals, and turf management preferred; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience. --- Possession of a valid State of Florida driver's license required --- Bi-lingual a plus --- Must be available to work a flexible schedule including weekends and some nights and holidays --- Potential for overtime for special events support including maintenance, set up, breakdown, clean up. --- Willing to train the right candidate in specific duties related to City maintenance. KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS: --- Knowledge of the equipment, materials and practices used in parks and parks facilities maintenance, including mowing, irrigation, fertilization, application of herbicides, trash removal and electrical repairs. --- Knowledge of the applicable work safety rules and procedures --- Ability to safely operate motorized tools and equipment --- Ability to work in high traffic areas and deep trenches --- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships necessary for successful work performance --- Ability to perform manual, semi-skilled and skilled tasks under adverse weather condition for extended periods of time --- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions --- Skilled in the use of construction tools and equipment necessary for work task completion PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Tasks involve the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds). May require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of heavier objects. ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Tasks are regularly performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions (e.g., dirt, cold, rain, fumes). SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Tasks require sound and visual perception and discrimination.
